We may have been addressing the issue of domestic violence wrongly.So far, the focus has been on gender inequality .But a major cause and effect of domestic violence is metal disorders, which has largely remained neglected.
In many cases, one or both the partners may be suffering from a metal illness. This, say scientists, may actually lead to perpetuation of domestic violence. According to study of Indian women in programmers on domestic violence, 30 to 90 percent of them had identifiable mental health problems.
“National and international research has shown that in most cases of domestic violence, either of the partners is suffering from a metal disorder,”
The common mental disorders include depression, anxiety, alcoholism, drug dependence and paranoia. These are the ones which can be easily diagnosed and treated. In some cases, somebody may be suffering from a personality disorder, which is difficult to treat.
“Though difficult to treat, this problem should also be diagnosed to find a solution to the issue,”
